Hi, I’mSamuel.

I’m Samuel Prakoso, and I love wasting my time working on the internet: websites, servers and hosting for businesses since 2000.

Say hello

About me

I’m Samuel Prakoso. I started in 2000 as a network engineer installing Linux servers, and wrote my first book in 2002, a guide to running your own email server. Five more books followed, on Linux, networks and web apps. I never stopped writing: lately it’s twelve guides for small business owners, and two novels.

I founded Dapurweb in 2006 and Imajiku in 2010. Through them I help businesses choose the right hosting, keep their servers from catching fire healthy, and get their websites live eventually on time. I explain things without the jargon, and I answer my own email.

I’ve never worked at Microsoft, but it looks nice to mention them here. I use Google every day, I stalk my friends keep up with friends on Facebook, and I once redesigned the President’s website. Nobody asked. Off the clock it’s cars, the more retro the better; a few of them ended up on the blog. Oh, and I was TIME’s Person of the Year in 2006. So were you.

Sounds like someone you’d like to work with? Say hello.

How I can help

Pedoman Praktis Pengembangan Aplikasi Web Database menggunakan Java Server Page

Penerbit Andi, 2008. Written with Foenadioen. Building database-driven web apps with JSP.

Since 1996

Thirty years of building things on the internet, and writing about it along the way.

  1. 1996 My first web page

Where it all started: learning HTML by hand, one tag at a time.

  2. 2000 Network engineer

My first job: installing Linux servers and learning networks the hands-on way.

  3. 2002 My first book

Panduan Praktis Menggunakan Email Server Qmail comes out with Elex Media: a whole book on running your own mail server.

  4. 2003 First post on this blog

“Bertahan di Era Open Source”, on surviving the open source era. The notes on Linux, DNS and hosting kept coming after that.

  5. 2004–2008 Five more books

Linux networking, client-server programming, internet technology, Linux for beginners and web apps with JSP. Three of them written with co-authors.

  6. 2006 Founded Dapurweb

My own studio, building websites for businesses.

  7. 2009 Went deep on SEO

A website nobody finds is a brochure in a drawer, so I learned how search really works.

  8. 2010 Founded Imajiku

A second company, for the custom software and apps that businesses kept asking about.

  9. 2017 More than websites

Mobile apps, digital marketing and SEO joined the list of things we do.

  10. 2023–2024 Two novels

AMAN KOK draws on twenty years of running a digital agency. NEGATIF came from quieter, personal reflection.

  11. 2024–2026 Twelve guides for UMKM

A series for small business owners, from Google Business Profile and WhatsApp Business to showing up in AI answers.

  12. Now Websites, apps and SEO

Helping businesses get online and stay online, and still answering my own email. Say hello.
